Industrial/Organizational Psychology

Program Director: Dr. Linda Shanock

The objective of UNC Charlotte’s nationally recognized master’s degree program in Industrial-Organizational (I-O) Psychology (See Ranking Here) is to provide students with the knowledge and skills necessary to improve the world of work from both an employee and organizational point of view. The program and its curriculum are built on five key foundational elements: Leadership, Organizational Change and Development, Talent, Culture/Climate, and Analytics. We strive to build the competencies set forth by our national professional organization, The Society for Industrial and Organizational Psychology in their Guidelines for Education and Training in I-O psychology.

Our I/O Psychology master’s program is designed as an evening and weekend program to accommodate working professionals. For the convenience of our students, the classes are offered completely from our centrally located Center City Building at 320 E 9th St. in uptown Charlotte rather than our main campus. As such, most of our students do not engage in traditional research while here. Rather, they tend to have an applied focus which is consistent with our goal of training I-O scientist-practitioners.

The I/O Psychology master’s program at UNC Charlotte is committed to social justice and inclusion, as is the department of Psychological Science to which we belong, and our University overall. To that end, please see our department’s social justice statement which includes both our philosophy as well as action steps we have been taking and will continue to take to review and revise our approaches and policies. We admit new cohorts in the fall of even years. New classes will be accepted for Fall 2022, Fall 2024, etc. The application deadline for the Fall 2020 cohort has passed.

PLEASE NOTE: This program only accepts new students in even years, so please apply for a fall term with an even year (i.e. Fall 2024).

Although you may see an odd-year fall term in the selection menu in the application portal, only currently enrolled Ph.D. Organizational Science applicants may select an odd year to apply to the program. If you try to apply for admission for an odd year (e.g., fall 2021) your application will be denied, as that application term is only for currently enrolled Ph.D. Organizational Science students.

Congratulations to our 2020-2022 cohort on finishing their degrees as of August, 2022! Pictured here are some of our wonderful graduates from 2020 and 2022! The faculty are so very proud of you!
