Industrial/Organizational Psychology

Program Director: Dr. Alyssa McGonagle

The objective of UNC Charlotte’s nationally recognized master’s degree program in Industrial/Organizational (I/O) Psychology (See Ranking Here) is to provide students with the knowledge and skills necessary to improve the world of work for both employees and organizations. The program provides foundations in core I/O topics in the context of science-driven practice. Specifically, students are provided with a strong foundation in (a) reading, understanding and applying the science of I/O Psychology to solve organizational problems and (b) collecting, critically evaluating, and statistically examining data to support organizational decision-making. We strive to build the competencies set forth by our national professional organization, The Society for Industrial and Organizational Psychology in their Guidelines for Education and Training in I-O psychology. Students receive individual attention from faculty members who maintain rigorous standards of academic excellence.

Our I/O Psychology master’s program is designed as an evening and weekend program to accommodate working professionals. For the convenience of our students, the classes are offered completely from our centrally located Center City Building at 320 E 9th St. in uptown Charlotte rather than our main campus. As such, most of our students do not engage in traditional research while here. Rather, they tend to have an applied focus which is consistent with our goal of training I-O scientist-practitioners.

We admit new cohorts in the fall of even years. Our next cohort will begin in Fall 2026 and the application deadline is February 15, 2026. For more information, please click the Application Process tab.

Congratulations to our 2024 graduates!
